This Aledo backyard turns a sloping lot into a resort-style retreat. The design works with the grade instead of fighting it. Stone retaining walls step the land down into terraces, and a vanishing edge pool spills over a tiled wall toward the lower lawn.

The pool has a sun shelf with in-water loungers, and a raised spa sits at one end. Below it, a sunken bocce court is framed in matching stone, with built-in seating and wide steps that connect each level.

Out front, a curving drive leads to the entry through layered beds of ornamental grasses, evergreens and lavender. Shade trees frame the house, and broad lawns let the architecture and the land speak for themselves.

The result is a landscape designed to fit its site: relaxed, functional and made for the way North Texas families live outdoors
